Accessible Formats (Braille, Easy Read & Large Print)

With so many users in the UK of Braille, Easy Read and Large Print, we want to make it easy for our clients to be able to provide these formats to people in all subject areas, so everyone is included. We only use experienced translators so we can be sure the message is getting across accurately every single time.

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Braille

Make your documents accessible to the blind or partially-sighted by providing them in Braille.

We provide Braille translations to public and private sector clients so that you can ensure that your content is provided to everyone. Our Braille service allows our clients to meet their accessibility standards and allows for inclusion. We can convert any type of document and any genre to Braille including tactile diagrams, numbers and tables and we can tailor this to your exact requirements.

Braille is a collation of raised dots which are felt by fingertips and arranged to mean numbers and letters. It can be written in many ways using specialist machinery or software.

  1. Send us your document/s.
  2. The document/s get converted into Braille using specialist softwares or equipment depending on your requirement.
  3. The Braille is then fully checked by our Braille proofreaders to ensure complete accuracy and fluency.
  4. The finalised document/s then get embossed, bound and delivered directly to your service user.

Easy Read

Easy Read is a document that combines text and images to portray your information clearly and simply so that people with learning disabilities have fair access to important information just like everyone else. The Easy Read version breaks down big chunks of text and instead displays them in smaller sentences with clearer language to enable easier understanding. The text is also accompanied with a picture to help show what the text is describing. Having an Easy Read version of your documents provides an option for so many people to be included in important goings on.

This process is now a requirement for public sector bodies and organisations and we also offer accessibility statements to confirm that the Easy Read document is compliant. We pride ourselves on being able to offer services that mean accessibility for all, so we are ready to help you with this.

Easy Read versions can be produced for all types of documents, whether that be medical reports, terms and conditions for work or training manuals, we can work closely with you to understand the key elements of your document, and then ensure those are portrayed in the best way for an Easy Read user. We like to discuss Easy read projects with our clients in detail, and are happy to send draft versions, as well as example images before anything gets finalised, so you can be sure that your Easy Read document sends the exact messages you need. We also provide typesetting services after Easy Read production so that you then have a design version of your Easy Read document for you to then publish, print and distribute in whichever way you need.

Large Print

Turning documents into Large Print provides your audience with a document that is clear for all to read. Not everyone with a visual impairment reads Braille, people with partial sight loss, dyslexia or age-related sight loss conditions require standard text, but displayed in large font, without backgrounds in order for them to read clearly. Providing your documents in Large Print, enables you to reach a wider audience and offer the additional standard of care.

The standard text size of many published and distributed documents is between size 10 and 12, Large Print is created in much larger font, at least size 16. Clear font choices are also used as well as considering different printing options. Most images tend to be removed in Large Print documents and there is also spacing considerations between lines and paragraphs. The length of the document is also well-thought-out as some people with a sight impairment find it difficult to read long collections of text. We work closely with our clients to understand their exact requirements and then create the most suitable Large Print document for them. Any type of document can be produced in Large Print including newsletters, brochures and instruction manuals to name a few.

Just like with our translations, every Large Print document is fully proofread after it is produced to ensure that all accessibility requirements are fulfilled, but also for accuracy and clarity of text.

AaGlobal + Humberside Airport

AaGlobal reaches for the sky in digital marketing deal with Humberside Airport

AaGlobal initially promoted its professional translation and interpreting services on digital billboards in Hull. Now the company is targeting international business travellers directly by using the airport’s screens in a 12-month deal which will run until summer 2026 – marking the 15th anniversary of AaGlobal’s arrival in Hull. Kirk Akdemir, CEO of AaGlobal, said: “Having established ourselves as the market leader in our region we feel now is the right time to reach out to a wider business audience with our services. “The initial digital campaign reflects how we have grown and developed as a business since expanding to Hull in 2011, investing in technology and taking a more innovative approach. “The partnership with Humberside Airport takes that further and as we enter 2026 will mark an important milestone for AaGlobal. It also enables us to work closely with another key player in the region’s international business community.” AaGlobal is the major partner of the International Trade Centre within Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce. Humberside Airport’s services include three flights a day to Schiphol, with connections worldwide. AaGlobal was a private sector specialist when the company was launched by Kirk in Worcester more than 30 years ago. Since then the expansion to Hull has driven significant growth in public sector work.  Hull is now AaGlobal’s head office and the workforce has grown from the two people who opened the Hull office to a team of more than 40, with the number of linguists operating worldwide having increased from 6,000 to more than 15,000, covering over 500 languages and dialects. Kirk said: “The public sector is still the biggest part of our client base but our private sector track record remains strong. We have worked at a very high level with many global brands in the past and this will help us build on that by connecting with a wider audience of international business travellers and particularly those flying between Humberside and Schiphol and onwards to more than 150 destinations. “We want to make more businesses aware of what we do by highlighting the importance to businesses of using professional language services when they are working to deliver their own high calibre services to international clients.  “Our approach is always to support the highest level of communications in international languages and in the often detailed, technical and specific languages of business.” Chantelle Akdemir, AaGlobal’s Business Development Manager, said: “We are aware there are so many businesses in the Humber region operating internationally and travelling through Humberside Airport and we want to let them know there is a translation company in Hull which works to the level of professionalism which matches their own. “The campaign in July was the first time we had used digital media to promote the company. We will monitor the impact as we progress and we may look at extending the campaign to other airports in the UK and across other forms of media. It’s important to consider adopting different media for different audiences – the whole process started with the launch of our print brochure at the Chamber Expo.” Tracey Frankish-Creed, Business Partners & Marketing Executive at Humberside Airport, said: “We are pleased to welcome AaGlobal, a local business with global reach, on board at Humberside Airport.  Together we are helping connect the Humber region to the world”.
